We just started the holiday season off with a look at "true Christmas" with customs and religious meaning. I wanted my oldest to understand that it is more important to give then to receive and with today's society is it even more prevalent for our children to want for "me, me, me"...well John & I, don't want this to happen to our girls. So we decided to go ahead and really talk about the meaning of holiday and help out in our community to help her understand why we are grateful to God for what we have and not want anymore...we also wanted her to serve her community since she is too young to be in Girl Scouts, this was a great opportunity to serve and learn!!
We are studying the conception of Mary being bore with child and going thru to the presents being presented to baby Jesus. Love this holiday and this is an opportunity not only for her to learn, but also myself to reflect on what is important to me and re learn the story of baby Jesus and his birth.
We are also continuing the study of math, language arts (sight words, 3-part words and sound binds) & Music with study of holiday songs and using that in our serving theme by Caroling at local nursing home. Lastly, we just finished a session on "Princess Manners",...we are going to WDW for Christmas and wanted her to prepare by learning some manner through a tea party and daily meals.
Enjoy the Holidays, and I will post more in the New year!!
~Best of Luck, fellow HSers and God Bless, Kim S.
